PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Olive Mill Roundabout improves traffic flow at the intersection at Olive Mill Road, Coast Village Road, North Jameson Lane, the northbound Highway 101 off-ramp at Olive Mill Road, and the southbound Highway 101 on-ramp at Olive Mill Road. Each roadway name is signed at each leg of the roundabout. The center of the roundabout is planted with olive trees and feature a sandstone retaining wall. Lighting is improved around the roundabout.

Pedestrians crosswalks are located around the mountain side of the roundabout. Bicyclists can either take the lane through the roundabout or walk bikes using pedestrian sidewalks and crosswalks.

Construction occurred from early 2023 to May 2024. This project was delivered early due to local, state, and federal funding programmed by SBCAG.

ACCESS THROUGH
CONSTRUCTION

Drivers had daytime access through the intersection during construction. To reduce congestion and provide enough space to build the roundabout, the northbound Highway 101 off-ramp at Olive Mill Road was closed throughout construction. The southbound Highway 101 on-ramp at Olive Mill Road was closed for approximately 1.5 months during the first stage of construction.

Pedestrians and bicyclists were encouraged to use a temporary detour on Santa Isabel Lane, Santa Clara Way, Santo Tomas Lane, and Olive Mill Road during stages 1A, 1B, and 2A of construction. Bicyclists may also share the lane during this time.

During stages 2B and 3, access through the roundabout remained open for pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers. Throughout construction, flaggers directed traffic and night work as needed.
