The Highway 101: Carpinteria to Santa Barbara improvements represent a significant part of the overall “lane & train” solution to address traffic congestion by adding new peak-period, carpool lanes and enhancements to improve freeway operations. These upgrades are part of a larger congestion relief strategy that includes peak-hour train service from Oxnard/Ventura to Santa Barbara/Goleta, commute alternatives, bicycle lanes, and improved pedestrian connections.

New freeway lanes, bridges, and ramps are built in Carpinteria and Summerland. Plants are growing in Carpinteria and being planted in Summerland. Construction continues in the Padaro and Montecito segments with Santa Barbara starting late summer 2024. The new Santa Claus Lane Bikeway, Olive Mill Roundabout, and San Ysidro Roundabout are all built and in use.

Curious about how these projects are built, where materials are stored, and concrete is recycled?
